Melanie End of School

Melanie had the great opportunity to be in Mrs. Ahlstrom's sixth Grade A.L.L. class this year.  You don't go into this class without knowing you are going to work hard... and hard work isn't something Melanie usually signs up for.  But knowing the fun times in class would be equal to the hard times she decided to take the challenge and the class lived up to its reputation.  She learned a lot more than just the sixth grade curriculum including that putting off your homework until the last minute is no fun, math is doable, and she can do very hard things.

 It is not unusual to see Melanie flirting with the boys in her class.  She even had her first "boyfriend" this year... Cody Stevens who gave her a necklace for Valentines Day.

 At the end of the school year the class got to have a swim party at the Legacy Center.  Melanie is on the right in black.

One of the last field trips of the year was to the Hill Air Force Base Museum.  Melanie is in the middle in a green shirt.

Tyler End of School

Tyler had a great 8th grade year.  He started with the club swim team, Lehi Frenzy, and really enjoyed swimming everyday.  He liked playing the bass in the school orchestra.  He had a great time making projects in his sewing class and his tech class.  He is looking forward to 9th grade.

UCAS Graduation

Graduation program highlights included watching Graigry receive his diploma and watching him perform on his violin to a crowd of his peers, most of whom didn't even know he could play an instrument.

UCAS All Night Party

Graig and his friends had a great time at the UCAS all-night party.  Mr. Bushman, school art teacher, drew charactures of all of the kids.

Happy Birthday Melanie

Melanie was excited to wake up early and see what gifts the "Birthday Fairy" had brought her.

A new dress

She thought she had to be at school at 8am, instead of the usual 9:15am, but instead I surprised her and took she and her best friend out to breakfast.  

Melanie's birthday always seems to fall on such a busy week that it is very hard to put together a birthday party so I bribed her and told her she could have a party at the Space Center if she waited until June.  She was able to take four friends to the Space Center for a mission on June 6th.

Melanie is very excited to be a part of the Young Women's program and attend girls camp this year.

Best of State

The American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra won "Best Orchestra" in this year's Best of State competition.  This is the fourth year in a row they have won a Best of State award of some type.

One highlight of this year's program is that the orchestra invited Stephen Sharp Nelson to come and play Beethoven's Five Secrets with them on the program.  They showed the viral You Tube video on a giant screen behind them as the orchestra played live on the stage.  It was really cool to see the video that large.

Out of this World

Each year the Legacy Center Gymnastics does an exhibition meet where the girls can show what they have learned.  They do routines on floor, beam, bars, and vault.  Great job Melanie!

Graig's Graduation Party & Seminary Graduation

We had an open house to celebrate all of Graig's graduations.  Below is a display of some of his accomplishments.

Tina was Graig's preschool teacher and extra mother for most of his life.

Symphony no. 9 by Beethoven

One thing about American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic director, Kayson Brown, is that he doesn't shy away from big projects... and by big I mean projects that might seem impossible.... Like having a youth orchestra play Beethoven's 9th Symphony... a symphony most professional musicians only play once or twice in their lifetime.  The other thing about Kayson, is that even though it may come down to the wire, his concerts come together beautifully and his students get amazing opportunities.  They performed the symphony twice, in Logan and Salt Lake City.

The concert in Salt Lake was special because Graig's first teacher, Trudy Meacham, came to watch.  He told Trudy at a very young age that he wanted to play with a big orchestra.  It was so fun to see him playing 3rd chair, 1st violin in such a beautiful hall.
