Lehi Santa Parade

On Saturday afternoon the city of Lehi welcomed Santa Clause to town with a parade.  The High School Band and Color Guard led the way.  It was an unseasonable warm day and that made for big crowds along Main Street.  Melanie looked beautiful as always.  She always has loved to be in parades.  The parade ended in front of the City Christmas Tree.  Santa exited the sleigh and we all counted down for the lighting of the tree.  Warren said to me, "It's nice when Lehi still feels like a small town."  I agree.

Decorating for Christmas

Warren and the kids did a lot of the decorating for Christmas while I was at work on Friday morning.  When I got home we finished up the decorations inside, had dinner, and went shopping for a Christmas Tree.  Melanie picked our tree out of the trailer outside Costco and even carried it to the car.  It turned out to be a beautiful tree that fits perfectly in our living room.  We had fun getting it all decorated.

On Saturday afternoon, as per tradition, we sent our exchange student up on the roof to put up the Christmas lights.  Tyler agreed to help.  Warren directed from the ground and put lights on the lower part of the house.  It looks pretty great!  We are ready for Santa to come.

Family Christmas Photo Shoot

After thanksgiving dinner we went up Little Cottonwood Canyon to find some snow.  It is not easy coming up with a new version of a family picture.  I quickly made the banner before we left for dinner.  It was a warm day despite the snow and we found a beautiful place for some quick pictures.  Thanks to my niece, Kara Atkisson, who came along to take the pictures.  She had some great posing ideas.

After the picture taking fun, we headed back to Lehi to do some Black Friday shopping.  We didn't stay out too late but we did do enough shopping to feel like we participated in the tradition.

Happy Thanksgiving

Warren and I let the kid's sleep in Thanksgiving morning while we went to the "Turkey Jam" at the Legacy Center.  The rec. center is opened for 1 1/2 hours for two sessions of group exercise classes so you can burn off some extra calories before eating Thanksgiving dinner.  We did a Zumba class and a Turbo Jam class.  When we got home we worked on our part of dinner.  I also made a "Merry Christmas" banner for our family photo shoot scheduled for later in the day.

We arrived at the Atkisson's house about 1 but were not ready to eat until about 2pm.  Everyone pitched in to help get everything ready.  Connie got out her wedding china for us to eat on.  Almost everyone fit at her dining room table.  It was a delicious meal.  We truly have a lot to be grateful for this year.

First ski day

Tyler decided that it was time to teach Maria to ski.  They decided since they had the day off school the day before Thanksgiving it was the perfect time.  He found her some skis in the garage and some snow clothes and gear in house and they headed up to Snowbird to learn to ski on the Chickadee Run.  They do not require a pass to use this lift.  I guess they figure once you learn to ski you will want to pay to go on the longer harder runs.  It turned out to be a beautiful day for skiing.  We had some big snow storms earlier in the week that had dropped almost 3 feet of fresh powder but on this day it was sunny and almost warm. They can't wait to find time to go again.  Maria blown away by the beauty of Snowbird and said that it is the prettiest mountain in the world.  I would have to agree.

This week

Melanie is getting good at tossing her rifle around.

On Monday I got a text at work from Amy Mitchell telling me that Jake Colledge died early in the morning.  He was 31 years old and had two small children.  They will do an autopsy to determine the cause of death for sure.  He had recently had surgery on his back and a few hours before he died was throwing up.  Corey is really taking it hard.  There will be a viewing tonight and a graveside service tomorrow.  Jake was one of Dad's very first scouts.  No one knows how long their turn on earth is....

The middle of my week was spent working getting everything ready for the head start conference on Friday.  Everything came together and the conference was considered a big success.

The end of the week we found out that Brother Kirkham died.  He is Karen Ekins dad who lived in the little white house on main street.  We did our Christmas program there a few times.  Sweet old man.  Both Graigry and Tyler did the sacrament there for years.

Friday night, Tyler and Maria had their Sadie Hawkins dance and said they had a really good time.  Tyler went with Skylar and Maria went with Jake.  They stayed until the VERY end of the dance and got asked to help clean up but they had to decline as Maria's date lives in Eagle mountain and so they had quite a drive ahead of them.  Maria wore Kara's bridesmaid dress from Kayla's wedding.

Yesterday afternoon Maria and Tyler did a double date to trafalga to rock climb and play indoor mini golf.  Maria went with Alec from the swim team and Tyler's date was Emily Mitchell.  Emily asked Tyler to her Sadies dance but he couldn't go because the swim team would be in St. George.  This was their make up date.  After he worked, Tyler went to Skylar's sixteenth birthday party.  He has the social part of high school down.  He had three dates this week.  Thursday night their Sadies group went bowling.

I worked most the day on Saturday at doTERRA because I took Friday off work.  That always makes the weekend go by very fast.

A spiritual thought from Relief Society today:
Sister Clark told a story I had forgotten about Graigry's first day of middle school. I was a little worried about sending Graig to middle school. I told her that every time I thought of him that day I said a little prayer for him. She said that really stuck with her and she now takes a worry thought about someone as a reminder to say a little prayer for them. She told about how her son just planted trees at his school for an eagle project. He has been worried about his trees because the weather has turned cold and windy. She told him to pray for his little trees whenever he thought about them. Some people may not think that God cares about trees but I know that he cares about what ever we care about.
