Graigry's Birthday and Ordination

Graig was living at BYU this year on his birthday.  Warren, Tyler, Steven and I went and picked him up from BYU the afternoon of his birthday and spent a few hours at Trafalga in Orem.  We watched a 3-D movie, rode the go karts, the boys practiced in the batting cages, and we played a quick round of black light mini-golf.  Later that night he and his roommate entertained a couple of girls at their apartment with a card game and a birthday cake Graig's roommates made for him.
On Sunday, my Mom and Dad picked Graig up after he attended his BYU ward for the first time and drove him to Lehi so he could be ordained an Elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood.  We did the ordination first and then came home for some cake and ice cream to celebrate Graig's birthday.

These are some of the men who helped ordain Graig.  Wayne Anderson, Warren, Sy Winkleman, and David Atkisson.  Not picture were Richard Southard, Dave Mitchell, and Mel Lemmon.

Survival Campout

The Teachers and Priests decided they wanted to do a survival camp out before they started back into school. Our new exchange student, Steven, decided he wanted to go along.  It was Steven's first camping trip.  He was excited to see stars and got to see a "river" of them.

Welcome Steven

I got a phone call on Thursday August 8th informing me that there was an exchange student from China whose host family could no longer take him and would we be interested.  We have considered taking a student in the past and we were going to have an empty bedroom with Graig leaving for BYU so by Thursday evening we had committed to a 10 month home stay.  We picked Steven up from the airport on Tuesday afternoon.
He accidentally went to the wrong terminal and so it took a while to find him.
Jennifer didn't want to miss out on the fun.
Fresh off the plane.
In order to get him right into American life Tyler took him to a swim team workout at 7am the next morning (dry land) during which I'm sure he thought we were trying to kill him (he came from sea level and those work outs are not easy), Warren took him on a survival camp out, and we taught him how to mow the lawn. We are excited.  He seems like a good fit for our family.

Race Winner

Grandpa Anderson offered to pay the entrance fee for anyone who wanted to run a 5K race.  Tyler, our athlete, was the only one in our family to take him up on the offer and ended up taking 3rd place in his age category.  Way to go Tyler!

Lehi Slim to Win

I have been participating in the Lehi "Slim to Win" contest through the Legacy Center. Today they gave out prizes to the winners in different categories and I got a prize for having lost the most % of body fat (12.2%). I'm glad our trainer has agreed to keep working with us through the end of the year (on her own time) - it has been a great program for me.

Lake Cathryn Hike

When we announced that we would be hiking to Lake Cathryn Melanie dug in her heals and announced she would not be going.  I took a play from my friend who had a successful hike with her daughter using bribery and offered her $3 to make the hike without complaining.  That was all it took and she happily ran up and down the mountain.  She even had a great time feeding the chipmunks at the top.
Rachel was really complaining to her Mom about hiking but once Grandpa took over as her hiking buddy she walked all the way to the top without one complaint.
These three moose were just laying around next to the trail on the hike.
