Graig's California Trip

The American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra just returned from their trip to California.  From what I hear, they played well in their concerts, behaved themselves, and had a great time.

The bus wasn't as comfortable a ride as Graigry imagined.  They had to sleep on the bus going and coming from California...

Their group was one of two invited to play at the conference.
It was a big honor for them.

Graig said they were having so much fun at Disneyland they didn't even want to stop to eat.  He got over his fear of roller coasters and went on every ride his group went on.  Space Mountain was his favorite.

After church on Sunday, they went to UCLA where they did a workshop with this well know Orchestra conductor.  It was Graig's favorite part of the trip.

Saving her artwork

I would be impossible to have space to save all of Melanie's art work but this one was especially good and so I wanted to remember it here on our blog.

California here they come!

As part of the upcoming ASTA (American String Teacher's Association) conference, only two non-professional performing groups were invited to perfom.  The last orchestra from Utah to receive this invitation was the BYU Philharmonic in 2005.  This is an enormous honor.

To get ready for the tour, the American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra performed their ASTA concert for their parents on February 10, 2010.  Those string teachers are in for a treat.

Graig is most excited they are going to Disney Land on Saturday.

Bangs

Melanie is my girl who likes to change her hairstyle at least every year or so and if I am too slow in making a change happen she sometimes helps speed things along by cutting her hair herself.

In this case she decided she needed bangs.  She began the process herself before I got her into our neighborhood salon.  She enjoyed being pampered by Paula with the "works" - a wash, cut and style.  Paula gave us some tips for curling her straight hair.

Here is the final result:

"Legacy of Love", A Celebration of Marriage 2010

Warren and I have been working for a year to plan for this year's Celebration of Marriage.  The big event was Friday night at The Barn at Thanksgiving Point.  We had about 400 people attend.

Ron McMillan is speaking.

Our speakers this year were Ron McMillan (far left) and Dr. Liz Hale.
John Canaan (middle) sang love songs during dinner.
I'm so glad I remembered to bring the camera this year.

New clothes

Connie surprised everyone last night at dinner with a new shirt.  The kids wore their new shirts to school today.  Warren and I found some pants for the boys on clearance at Kohl's on Saturday night so they were all new today.

Thanks Connie, they look great!

Learning to tumble

Warren does trade work with the Legacy Center so that Melanie can take a gymnastics class.  She looks forward to it every week

Her favorite thing is climbing the rope - because she is so good at it.

In case you thought you were having a bad day...

Apparently our cat, Chester, was on top of the garage door when I closed it and drove off to take Melanie to her violin lesson.  As the door closed the cat got both front paws caught in between the top panels of the door.  Luckily our next door neighbor heard his cries for help, opened the front door with her key, and lifted the garage door enough to release him.  Chester was not seriously hurt but he did hide in the downstairs bathroom for about four days.
