White Christmas

We have gotten two big snowstorms this week in Lehi. Thank goodness for a snow blower to help shovel the walks!

The kids are loving all the snow. Here are Jessica and Graig trying out the snow clothes they got for Christmas. Jessica had all the neighbor kids over on Monday working on the snow fort with tunnel they are standing in. They have more work to go before it is finished.

Christmas Morning

Graig's favorite gift was a "Lego Batman" computer game.

Our Christmas Tree.

Melanie got her room redecorated for Christmas. She moved in with Jessica so Warren and I could paint and re-carpet. We hung pictures of horses around the room at her request. Melanie got a bunch of "Littlest Petshop" toys from Santa. Tyler got a mummy bag for scout campouts. Jessica got a new bedspread I made with Connie's help. As you can see, Santa brought lots of gifts this year.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve Nativity

We had a delicious Christmas Eve dinner with the Atkisson's in Draper. After dinner the Atkisson's introduced us to their tradition of "Elving" their neighbors looking for Christmas spirit. They also did some caroling. Later we did our Christmas program for them and the kids acted out the nativity story as David read it from the Bible. Here are our actors:

The "Three Wise Men" (Kayla, Tyler and Graig)
Joseph (Kara) and Marys (Ashyln and Melanie)
The Angel (Emily) talks to the shepherds (Megan and Jessica)

New Oven

The best part of the new oven is that there are no exposed elements to catch on fire! Even in the bottom of the oven the element is below the oven.

Fire!

Charred counter On Thursday, December 18th Jessica and Graig had left for school and Warren had left for work. The kids had eaten oranges for breakfast and so I decided to make the house smell good by boiling the peelings on the stove. I put the peelings in a pot with some water and turned the element on high. Unfortunately, I turned on the wrong element. The element I turned on had the skillet lid covering it. I ran upstairs to help Melanie and smelled something burning. As I walked down the stairs I was surprised to see the skillet lid fully engulfed in flames and a black cloud of smoke in the kitchen. My first thought was, "That is going to set off the fire alarms." My second thought was, "get help" so I opened the front door and yelled to my neighbor, Randy Clark, "Can you help me for a minute." I left the door open and ran for the fire extinguisher. Two weeks ago Graig had decided to use the fire extinguisher but couldn't figure out how to use it before the fire put itself out. Graig's story came into my mind as I grabbed the fire extinguisher and I heard Graig's voice in my mind say, "Pull the pin, Mom". I pulled the pin and started spraying the fire. About that time Randy came in and said, "You didn't tell me the house was on fire!!" He took over spraying the fire and managed to get the element turned off. The fire was still burning and so I called the fire department and told Tyler and Melanie to get out of the house. Melanie ran to the next door neighbor's house in her pajamas and bare feet (it was snowing) and reported that our house was on fire which brought that neighbor running over. Tyler had just gotten out of the shower so he was standing on the front porch (in the snow) wrapped in a towel, holding his clothes because he was too embarrassed to run to the neighbors in that condition. The van happened to be in the driveway so I unlocked the door and put him in the van to get dressed. By the time the fire department got through the traffic and the snow the fire had burned itself out. I have learned that fire extinguishers spray out a fine, yellow, smelly dust that gets everywhere including inside closed cupboard doors. My sweet neighbor Jill came over and helped me get a start on cleaning up the mess. I called Warren later and told him I knew what I wanted for Christmas - a new stove. The new stove was delivered yesterday morning.
