Pack Meeting

Congratulations Tyler on earning your "Outdoorsman" and "Engineering" pins. Tyler is the only WEBELO in our ward but his leaders Brother Watson and Brother Clark do a full program for him anyway. He is well on his way to his Arrow of Light!

Carving Pumpkins

Jack o' Lanterns in the dark On Monday night for Family Home Evening (and according to tradition) we carved pumpkins for Halloween. Graig made a "happy" one this year, naming it Pierre. Melanie carefully designed a cat pumpkin, Tyler made a more traditional Jack o' lantern, and Jessica carved hers to look like a scarred face.

Melanie ready to go

On Sunday, Graig, Tyler, and Melanie invented a new way to entertain themselves- fixing bungee cords to the slide and then sliding down under them!

Halloween Parties

Tyler and a Halo dude

On Saturday, Dad took Tyler and Melanie to a Halloween party at the Legacy Center. Several of the staff were dressed up, so Mel and Ty each got a picture with their favorite one.

Boy Scout Campout

Graig not even bothering to pretend he's asleep

Graig went on a Scout campout last week where the night was so nice all the Scouts got to sleep out under the stars. They also took a hike by moonlight. Dad said the moon was so bright he found it easy to follow the trail. Apparently the Scouts weren't so observant, because Graig said he couldn't see very well at all.

Book Signing with Brandon Sanderson

Left to right: Lela Sandstrom, Tayla Hall, Jessica, Brandon Sanderson, and Isaac Stewart Yesterday (Thursday, October 16th), Jessica and some of her friends were able to go into Salt Lake for a book signing. Brandon Sanderson, who wrote the Mistborn series, released the conclusion to his series on Tuesday. Jessica not only got a copy of the new book, she got to have Brandon Sanderson and Isaac Stewart (the artist) sign it.

In addition to going to Barnes and Noble for the book signing, Jessica and her friends went to "BodyWorlds" for a chance at some extra credit in biology. "BodyWorlds" is a bunch of plastinated cadavers that show how the body works. They wouldn't allow pictures, or I would've uploaded some. It actually wasn't as gross as it sounds- it was just cool.

Melanie Said: Meadow elementry was having a free skate night at Classic Skating. Joshua and I skated together during snowball. It was very romantic. I saw all my friends.

It was fun!!

Tyler said: Joshua was Melanie's Boyfriend since Grade:K. It was also Very fun. I didn't fall down once, although Dad decided to go off the jump and got horribly injured. Well not really, but still pulled a muscle and got plenty of bruises. Makayla, my friend, would absolutly NOT do snowball with me or it would be too imberissing. Yea right!! I don't beleive it! Melanie forgot to mention that I brought the padded skates early,so she took the non-padded ones, When I saw her in those I rode my scooter and let Melanie use the padded roller-skates. I bet she was grateful for that!! I think Melanie needs some more practice on roller-blades,because,no offence, she was sort of crooked. Not to much though! Well, I guess that was our skate-party!

Peaches, pears, zuchini, tomatoes, did I mention PEACHES?

You see this basket chock-full of peaches? That's not all of them, believe me. We have more.

Peach cobbler

The more Mom peels, the more she feels they multiply. Several jars of canned pears, a day full of snacking on peaches and pears, a meal with tomatoes and zuchini hidden in it, and a peach cobbler have not even seemed to make a dent in our harvest this year.

We got a ton of food from our garden and fruit trees on Saturday. We spent all morning trying to get every last fruit off of every last tree before winter, and we ended up with a bazillion peaches and pears, not to mention some tomatoes and also HUGE zuchini that we didn't find until it was too late...

At least our garden doesn't look like a jungle anymore.

Snow Day!

We woke up this morning and the world was white. Melanie was very excited to go out and play in the snow. She even stood outside in the cold in her Sunday dress.

Potions

On Tuesday at the Hutchings Museum in Lehi, they held a Harry Potter Night (I guess because Halloween is coming up). Everyone except Mom went. It turned out to be pretty fun.

Tippy

Tippy died Sunday, October 5th, in her sleep of old age. We've had her for about 14 years, ever since she was a puppy. We named her "Tippy" after her white tail-tip, and we always used to get after her for digging and call her the "Diggin-est Dog", after the kid's book. She was protective of our yard (she barked every time someone came near our back fence) and very snuggly with her family. Towards the end of her life, she got a skin condition that made her look kind of gross but didn't make us love her any less. Now she's in heaven and has all her fur back. We had a funeral for her Monday and buried her in the backyard next to Lacey, our Dalmatian and David, one of Lacey's stillborn puppies.
